Cecilia Alemani, Donald R. Mullen, Jr. Director & Chief Curator of High Line Art, and Melanie Kress, High Line Art Associate Curator to preview the upcoming season of art being presented on the High Line. They will be joined by artists Paola Pivi and Nina Beier to discuss the inspiration behind their commissions.
For the High Line, Pivi presents a large-scale cast bronze replica of the Statue of Liberty wearing cartoonish masks that change every two months, representing six different people during the exhibition. The masks are stylized portraits of individuals whose personal experiences of freedom are directly connected to the United States.
Beier realizes a fountain composed of found bronze sculptures, ranging from classical to contemporary and all depicting women and children in the nude, as has been a Western art-historical convention. Water streams from the eyes of the sculptures, creating cartoonish tears that point to the fragility projected onto women and children as subjects.
The support of friends like you sustains this acclaimed public art program, creating opportunities for artists to realize their ambitious commissions - we hope you’ll join us to see all you make possible.
Please RSVP by emailing RSVP@thehighline.org to receive instructions for joining the call. The conversation will be hosted on Zoom.
