An Eco-Trash Holiday

Dec 06, 2009

NEW YORK, NY: DECEMBER 1ST, 2009— Chelsea Market, New? York City’s most iconic artisanal marketplace, celebrates the holiday season this year with a stunning public display of 100-percent recycled “green” decorations throughout its historic concourse.

In its commitment to protecting the environment and reducing our consumer waste stream, Chelsea Market is proud to showcase—for the first time—these poignant, original, “eco-trash” holiday designs by acclaimed environmental artist Tom Deininger and Creative Voltage of Los Angeles. As you walk the space, discover:

  • --Brightly lit gemlike hanging globes—fashioned from discarded plastic party cups.
  • --Shimmering silver wreaths, and a luminescent 9-foot tree, all constructed with repurposed wood and wire, adorned with thousands of trashed CDs, re-purposed plastics, bottles—all otherwise destined for landfills.
  • --Whimsical flakes of snow—“served up” with discarded picnic plastic utensils and compact discs. A dedicated environmentalist, Deininger incorporates industrial and consumer waste into all of his projects—in hopes of raising awareness--and shifting our thought--from consumption to conservation.

Creative Voltage specializes in presenting cutting-edge environmental art to the public and for companies truly committed to “going green.”
